A Christ Servant Minister (CSM) is a member of the laity in the United Methodist Church. Lay Methodists have a long and distinguished tradition of serving. When the early circuit riders would leave to attend to other churches on their charge, laity members would fill the pulpit in their absence. This position was known as an exhorter. In the 1940s, the term changed to lay speaker.
CSMs are dedicated to spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ to the world through caring, speaking and communication ministries. CSMs follows the rules and guidelines for Lay Speakers as stated in the Book of Discipline and are recognized by the conference only in the areas that they have training.
Our Christ Servant Ministers assist the Pastor in conducting worship services, conduct worship when the Pastor is not available and assist members with spiritual and pastoral needs.
Evansburg United Methodist Church’s CSMs include:
- JoAnn Bean-Butcher
- Beth Hostetter
- Dan Hummel
- Claudia Marshall
- Pam Sepnefski
- Sherry Wack
- Dennis Wack (CLM)
The church council exists to create and supervise the strategic plan for our local congregation so that the congregation fulfills its mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ. This twofold function includes both leadership and management. Leadership is the visionary, “big picture” work that assesses critically where your congregation is at the present moment, where God is calling it to be in the future, and what resources will be required to move from your current reality into the desired future. Management is the essential “detail work” that must be accomplished on a daily basis to make the congregation effective.
The Trustees are responsible for the care and maintenance of the church. They ensure the building is safe and accessible and that the grounds are kept in good order. The Trustees meet the second Monday of each month at 7:00PM.
